Geospatial Information System Training

Client Industry
Government

Context
This state government agency developed a cutting-edge GIS application in-house to provide access to a wide range of land, owner and environment information, spatially. The application offered significant value to areas of the business, who were unaware of its benefits as they had little or no exposure to the product.

Brief
Articulate was engaged to take responsibility for training end-to-end, from strategy and planning, to needs analysis and communications, and course design and delivery. Upgrade training was required for existing users, and new users needed to be identified, inspired and trained.

Outcomes

  • Optimum organisational awareness of in-house application
  • Maximum return on investment for rollout of application
  • Workforce adequately skilled with core business system
  • On-going training handed over to business

Approach
A detailed Training Needs Analysis was required to predict likely training numbers and locations for both upgrade training and new user training.

Due to the low awareness of this product and its benefits, a key focus for Articulate was to broadly 'advertise' the product's value proposition through a carefully crafted Communications Plan culminating in information sessions for interested parties. Registrations for training would then follow.

Although the majority of users received generic training, two divisions received custom-made training developed through workshops with Subject Matter Experts.

Training delivery was face-to-face activity based group training, with instructor led e-learning to address geographical challenges.
